Merton Court Preparatory School
Merton court school is a private junior school located in Sidcup Kent; they have been customers of Active Leisure Contracts since we build their original artificial grass MUGA pitch in 2006.
The original pitch proved so successful for football, netball, hockey, and general play use that in 2019 they asked Active Leisure to construct an additional pitch alongside the original on a design and build basis.
The existing area was a tarmac playground with quite a distinct fall from end to end, the works included the importation of porous fill and levelling to achieve the required levels, supply and install of heavy-duty sports rebound fencing, supply, and installation of sports shock-pad and 13mm curl piled ALC multisport artificial grass with permanent inlaid lines for mini tennis, netball and five aside.
This new pitch proved so popular that we were then commissioned to replace the fencing and surfacing on our original pitch, with a matching fence and artificial grass surface, which was completed in 2020.
Lubavitch School
Lubavitch School is an Orthodox Jewish Boys primary school located on Clapton Common E5.
Active Leisure were approached by the school to solve problems within the existing dilapidated tarmac playground, (see pic below). There were two issues football, mad pupils, kicking a ball around, mixing with others that didn’t want to play football, and a potentially dangerous step arrangement across the whole width of the playground coupled with poor-quality tarmac generally.
The solution was to separate the football from the rest of the playground by creating a fully enclosed artificial grass surfaced pitch with roof net and create smaller play spaces around the perimeter with safe artificial grass and rubber surfacing. The hazardous step arrangement was also replaced by a safe rubber surfaced ramp which provided added play value. Our 13mm dense Curled Multi-sports grass was used with a 20mm sports shock-pad to great effect.
Haileybury College
Working in conjunction with our partners A & S Landscapes structures Active Leisure Contracts designed and constructed the groundworks, subbase, sports fencing, artificial grass surfacing to create this wonderful fully covered multisport area, for five aside football and general play.
Our ALC 13mm dense curled piled multi-sports grass was installed with a 20mm shock pad below. Permanent inlaid lines for 5a side were installed within the surface.
Five aside football and basketball combination goals were built into the fencing at each end.
Table tennis tables were installed outside to give added play value.
Kensington Academy
Kensington academy North Kensington Rooftop MUGA
Active Leisure Contracts constructed this rooftop sports pitch for Bouygues UK when the school was originally built in 2014. This included all the fencing roof netting and surfacing.
The surfacing was originally laid as a polymeric Rubber surface. Due to the terrible fire which occurred nearby in 2018 the netting and surface was damaged beyond repair by falling debris and required total replacement.
In the few years since the school was built, it had become clear that the school had been using the area predominantly for football and general exercise, so it was decided to change the polymeric rubber multisport surface to a surface ideal for football.
Active Leisure Contracts were contracted to design and supply a new 4th Generation Football surface (Soccer XCN 30) with underlying 20mm sports shock pad/drainage layer, complete with inlaid lines for five aside football. At the same time, the dividing net and roof net were replaced.
Due to the location on the roof, all the works were undertaken using access via an internal staircase and standard lift, so all material sizes and handling needed to be detailed to suit.
